$1,296 million invested in Chile's wind potential represents 12% of the total generation capacity

The generation potential of the different wind farm projects presented before Chile's Environmental Impact Assessment System adds up to 1,463 MW, which represents 12% of all initiatives currently under evaluation. The projects would require investment close to $1,296 million dollars.

According to a report issued by the energy consulting firm System Ingeniería y Diseños, the initiatives under evaluation for interconnection to the electric grid, total 12,525 MW and $15,818 million dollars in investment.

Carbon-based installed capacity is estimated in 4,645 MW or 37% of the total capacity, with investment close to 7,646 million dollars. Hydraulic-based generation represents 4,177 MW or 33% of the total capacity. The amount of investment needed for these projects is estimated around $5,235 million dollars. Diesel projects add to 1,246 MW, and represent 10% of the total capacity, requiring $527 million dollars.

Based on the project type, the first three projects would be HidroAysén, the Central Termoeléctrica Energía Minera and the Parque Eólico Talinay, requiring investment of $3,200 million, $1,700 million and $1,000 million dollars respectively.
